Città d’Acqua – Our Kennel Name and Philosophy

Città d’Acqua (cittadacqua), our registered kennel name with The Kennel Club, means “City of Water” in Italian. It reflects our heritage—Italian, Swedish, and English roots—as well as our deep connection to water, nature, and the land we call home.

When we moved to Watertown, our smallholding in the Devon countryside in the south of England, it felt natural to choose a name that represented both place and identity. Surrounded by open fields, woodland, and our own lake, water has become a defining part of life here.

Golden Retrievers have always been at the heart of our journey. Known for their intelligence, gentle nature, and love of water, they thrive here at Watertown—often found swimming, retrieving, or exploring the land in every season.

Alongside our Golden Retrievers, we are also home to Border Collies, a highly intelligent and driven working breed that brings energy, focus, and balance to life on the farm.

Our smallholding is shared with a carefully balanced variety of animals, including Valais Blacknose sheep, Golden Guernsey goats, llamas, peacocks, turkeys, chickens, and cats. Each species contributes to the rhythm of Watertown, creating a diverse and living environment shaped by respect, observation, and daily care. The Llamas in particular bring a calm, gentle presence to the fields, becoming part of the natural landscape that surrounds our home and lake.

Our breeding philosophy is built on health, temperament, socialisation, and ethical responsibility. Every puppy is raised with structure, patience, and affection, ensuring they develop into confident, well-balanced companions. We are committed to responsible breeding practices that prioritise quality of life over quantity, always striving to match each puppy with the right home.

Our heritage—Italian, Swedish, and English—influences everything we do: respect for animals, appreciation of nature, and a belief in thoughtful stewardship of the land. These values are at the core of Città d’Acqua.

Even after our puppies leave us, we remain available to their new families for lifelong support and guidance. Responsible breeding, for us, does not end at placement—it continues for life. Visits to Watertown are always welcome, and we are proud to maintain lasting relationships with every family that joins our extended circle.
